Narrative description of the Project
Due to heavy loss of infrastructure and other properties, because of the earthquake of April 2015, most of the people in the community were left in miserable situations. The situation was exacerbated owing to unavailability of sufficient & quality food and loss of livelihood opportunities. This project is aimed at supporting the restoration of livelihoods, devastated by the earthquake, in a sustainable manner, including for people with disabilities.
SAPPROS has been implementing disability inclusive livelihood programme in 10 earthquake affected VDCs; 5 VDCs each in Sindhupalchowk and Nuwakot districts. Most of the pre-existing livelihood activities were poorly structured and do not address holistic and fundamental social strata including the women, adolescents, disadvantaged people and of course, people with disabilities. The project activities such as enhancing local capacity/skills and creation and linkages with markets for end products help local people to generate employment.
Objective of the Project
The overall objective of the project is to create an enabling environment for people with disabilities and their neighboring communities (especially earthquake affected farmers) to make them self-reliant. This will be achieved through provision of various sustainable rural livelihood based vocational skills as well as institutional development training activities, which will enable them to venture into the economic mainstream.
